On a hot August day in 2006 Carol my wife and I were watching a TV. show and having a little lunch.
Carol had went outside and came back in and said that she saw a couple scooter down our lane and out by the road.
A few minutes later there was a knock on our fishin shack door. It was a young man and he ask me if I was Ramsey. I said yes even though I had never seen the guy in my life! He said there is a guy out here with a Pan Head with a blown head gasket. I said so? He then told me that the guy on the Pan was on his way to California from Virginia. The guy on the scooter had ask where he could get it fixed and a guy in the town of Reynolds Indiana told him the only guy he knew that could work on a Pan was Ramsey over on Lake Shafer. That's me!
That is where it all starts with Allan "Swamp" Harris and his 64 Suicide Clutch Hand Shift Pan Head with a bad rear cylinder head gasket.

Allan's One cylinder Pan.

You sure this stuff will work Ramsey?

Son Jim showed up to make things happen with Allan.

Oil lines gotta be tight!

Setting the push rod lifters can be tricky. But Jim has been there done that before.

Gettin close now!
Allan is calling Iowa to let them know Brian and he will be on their way soon.

Head Gasket Hot Torqued and ready for the road.

But first a little of Carol's Hoosier home cookin for the Iron Horse Pilgrims.

To the shed and the Pan.
Packin up.

Brian's 88 with Ape Hangers is ready for the road West.

Jim's 70 Glide leads out for US. 24 West.
A few weeks later Allan calls and says they made it to California and Partied with the Folks from Easy Rider Magazine.
That's where they told their story of the road.
Allan has to be one solid biker to ride a hardtail all that way.
I have a 1952 Pan Head hardtail and when riding it I was buying gasoline and "Preparation H" both by the gallon!
Ramsey.
